About Cindy Cheshire
I first encountered doula care after I had my first child. The birth had been traumatic and we’d spent a few weeks in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A dear friend gifted me several hours of doula care that helped me feel seen and supported during such a vulnerable time in my life. It is my deepest hope that I can pay that kindness forward and help each of my clients feel just as seen and supported.
My doula care is trauma-informed and spirit-centered. I seek to care for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. My background is in spiritual care, which means that I bring a skillset of active listening, conscious presence, and holistic care to traditional doula work. I am happy to run errands, organize meal trains, help you with the nuances of newborn care, or simply hold the baby for awhile so you can rest. I can also help you design a meaningful ritual to mark this important time in your life, go on a shopping trip together to help you make sense of that huge (and confusing) baby section, or talk through your birth experience. Some of my additional training and experience includes:
Creighton Natural Family Planning
Montessori education and care for the environment
Nonjudgmental, holistic spiritual care and counseling
NICU graduate parent
Parent of children with special needs
Military spouse
Personal experience in unmedicated labor, traumatic birth, C-section, and VBAC
When I’m not caring for my clients, I am a master fiber artist who spins yarn, knits, crochets, and weaves; I even include a handmade baby blanket for clients who choose my top-tier packages. I’ve lived all over the country, including outside of Washington, D.C., in Chicago, and even in Juneau, Alaska. I currently live on a small homestead in Harrisville with my husband, our two children, and an ever-changing assortment of animals.
